ADHD Medication Management

A new UHS ADHD management and prescribing policy takes effect on August 1, 2024. This policy is designed to make the use of ADHD medications safer and more effective for our patients. Specifically, it aims to prevent the concurrent use of medical marijuana while taking stimulants for ADHD. This aligns our practices with those of our collegiate peers, OSU Behavioral Medicine in Tulsa, and adheres to best practices supported by a thorough review of medical literature.

Policy

Physicians at University Health Services (UHS) can provide controlled substance medication management for students (1) who have a verified diagnosis of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), (2) provide documentation of appropriate psychological/diagnostic testing, and (3) abide by the UHS Provider-Patient Agreement for Stimulant Medication.

Procedure

Students requesting ADHD medication management are required to schedule with a MH Consultant for an initial intake. Additional policy details to include the provider-patient agreement for stimulant medications can be found here.
